Snooze button, Swallowing Pills, A Dance-inspired Circuit and A Homemade Egg McMuffin

Today has been a “finally getting things done” kind of day.  Thanks to the help of Chad and his snooze button I was able to get up around 4 am and start the day.  I know all of us have (including me) pushed that snooze button from time to time, but in all seriousness….what the heck!  Who decided to make this button?  All it does is cause problems.  You either hit it when you shouldn’t and you are late or you are like my husband and hit it four times deliriously until the person that’s lying in bed with you WIDE AWAKE! I had to lay down the line and tell him that either he stops pressing snooze or I sleep in the guest room.  You may think I’m crazy, but lack of sleep is a huge trigger for me and my eating disorder.  Yes, I consider myself recovered, but like any addiction – you make it through a day at a time, you are still tempted and it’s still sort of with you no matter what.  I keep hoping that one day I will wake up and not think about food, calories, losing weight, size zero pants, other women’s slimmer figures, the scale, and extreme exercising, but every morning I wake up it’s usually the first thought I have on my mind.  Isn’t that sad?  I wonder if it’s like that for every addict.  If you’ve had an addiction do you still think about it?  or does this mean I’m not totally recovered?  Just wondering what you think.

Tonight was a little upsetting to me.  Ayden has been taking a medicine to help his dizziness go away.  He has been having shorter episodes, he’s not feeling dizzy (just lightheaded) and he did not throw up at all last week when he had his episode.  This is huge for us.  Today his Dr. upped his dosage by 10 mg in hope that we can totally stop these terrible episode every other month.  The problem is Ayden has expanders and can’t swallow his pills.  They get stuck on the roof of his mouth, then start burning his mouth.  We decided to crush them and have tried putting them in ice cream, applesauce, yogurt…you name it.  Anyways, tonight he was trying to eat it and was gagging and crying.  It makes me feel so bad for him.  I feel helpless sometimes because I want him to get better, but he told me he would rather be dizzy and sick than take it.  I just can’t allow that.  He is doing better and I want to see if this increase will help him break this cycle. I tried to explain it to him, but I fear tomorrow night will be the same.  Tears, gagging and arguing.  I hate it.  DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD GET MEDICINE DOWN?  I’ve even tried Mary Poppins way….a spoonful of sugar and it didn’t help the medicine go down.

My workout today was walking baby Elijah for 30 minutes and when he took a nap I did this dance-inspired circuit.  I liked that it was different, but I don’t know if I liked the circuit that much.  I must say the second time through I was feeling it in certain places.  My thighs, arms and buttocks.  It was nice to have a change.

For breakfast this morning I had a homemade Bacon Egg McMuffin. This is not my pic =(

Here’s what you need-

Whole wheat English Muffin

1 Egg

1 Slice of Bacon

Slice of Cheese (optional) I didn’t use any today, but I get my from Royal Crest or use laughing cow

Sea Salt

Pepper

-Sugar free syrup (optional) I was in the mood for a drizzle  of sweetness

I got these healthy English muffins where the Kashi waffles were located and I throw away the box because it got all soggy in the car.  I wish I hadn’t because I have no idea what kind they are and I like them and will most likely never be able to find them again.  I cut it in half and placed it in the toaster oven.  I sprayed my skillet with olive oil spray and put on medium heat.  I put in my slice of bacon and cooked it, then my eggs.  When I make a breakfast sandwich I wait till the yoke has cooked, so it doesn’t ooze out, but that’s up to you. I cover my eggs to cook them a little faster and sprinkle on some sea salt and pepper.  Then I take one side of my muffin and put my egg and bacon on it then I drizzled it with syrup and put on the top.  BLISS!

It’s Our Anniversary, Banana Almond French Toast & Burn 500 calories in 45 minutes :)

September 19th holds a special place in my heart.  It’s our Anniversary.  It’s been 4 years since my husband and I came together before God to promise to spend the rest of our lives together in holy matrimony.   My wedding was amazing! It was quite small, but beautiful.  We had our ceremony outside by a little pond and the reception in this warm, cozy,  wine cellar inspired room.  Our colors were black, gold, and ivory.  We put the wedding together in just 3 weeks and had to make some difficult choices because we could only have 30 guests.  That was including us.  My husband and I have actually been together over 10 years and have an 8 year old son, Ayden. Although I was never quite comfortable that we started backwards, I AM truly happy that Ayden was present there on that special day.  I don’t think it would have been the same without seeing his glowing presence walking down the isle with his suited build-a-bear in hand.

I made a scrumptious breakfast this morning to celebrate.

Banana Almond French Toastwich

You need:

– 2 slices of bread (I use 100% whole wheat)

-2 eggs

– 1 banana

– sea salt

– stevia

– cinnamon

– sugar free syrup/ maple syrup

To make it

– Turn on your stove top to medium and heat up your skillet – or griddle

– Crack your eggs and stir them up – whisk – whatever you wish

– Add a bunch of cinnamon.  I made sure my eggs became a cinnamon color.

– Put your bread in your egg -let it sit for a bit, so the bread can soak up the egg.  Turn it. Put in skillet/griddle.

– Repeat with other piece of bread – make sure you flip the bread and cook both sides

– Cut your nana in half (long ways) put onto skillet (hope you have enough room).  If not heat up a small skillet and place the nana on there. I turned the banana after a few minutes.  Cook to your liking.

– I added cinnamon, stevia and sea salt to my sugar-free syrup and nuked for 30 minutes.

– Once my bread was cooked I placed one slice on a plate – sprinkled on almonds and added banana, then placed the other slice of bread on top (like a sandwich).

– I added more almonds and poured on hot syrup.

YUM! The best breakfast I’ve had all week.

As for a workout, I’m going to try this 45 minute workout that burns, burns, burns.

I know we are all different and some of us like spending two hours at the gym, sometimes I do too.  I just feel good to get around other people and feed off their motivation, but if you are spending countless hours working out and you don’t want to….YOU DON’T HAVE 2!! These circuits kick your bootie in far less time and do more for you than just walking/running on a treadmill.  Here’s a link for today’s circuit.  I will be watching the videos and writing down the exercise and reps. You may want to as well.

Have a great Thursday and kick some bootie!

Sleepless night, New protein powder, Circuit & A Smoothie For Breakfast

It was one of those nights where I woke up at 1:00 am totally wired and ready for the day to start.  I was even wanting to make some breakfast and have a cup a joe.  It was hard to calm myself down.  I realized that I had woke up because my lower back was aching like mad crazy.  All those darn Mountain climbers and burpees are haunting me in my sleep.  Somehow I managed to fall back asleep for a few hours, but during the time I was awake I managed to preplan the entire day in my mind.  I despise that.  Even if I tell myself to stop thinking, I just can’t.  By 3 am I had painted my house, found a bird house and redecorated most of my house (in my mind-of course).

I’m babysitting a sweet little baby today and he is taking a little nap, so I can tell you today’s workout (Which I have yet to do) and my morning breakfast.  For starters I ran out of protein about 5 days ago and I was missing my smoothies.  I finally picked some up yesterday.  I normally stick to vanilla or chocolate, but I wanted to try something different.  I considered chocolate mint, but I know that after 3 days of chocolate mint I’ll feel like vomiting, so I got cookies n cream.  I used it today for breakfast because I needed something quick and easy.  I have a feeling that I will be getting sick of that one pretty fast.  I wish I could afford to get 3 different flavors because I love variety.  What is your favorite flavor protein powder?  Mine is Vanilla because it’s not overbearing.  I can create so many different flavored pancakes, oatmeal, smoothies and just about anything else with it and I don’t feel like all I’m tasting is Vanilla Protein Powder.

This morning I made a

Nutty Cookies n Cream Protein Shake (without the cookies)

No this is not my picture…I stole it because my pictures just aren’t pretty. It’s a nice pick, but it’s actually making me want a cookie.  Sorry folks, there is no real cookies in my recipe.  I’m sure once in a while you could do that for a treat.  I can’t imagine having a cookie in the morning though, doesn’t seem right, but if you want to…hey go for it.  I was so upset that I didn’t have anymore Unsweetened Almond Breeze Vanilla milk because that helps make my smoothies really creamy.  I had to have water instead..boo hoo!

Here’s what I used:

-My Ninja Blender

-1 cup of water

-1 scoop of Cookies n Cream Protein powder (You can use what you have at home)

1 frozen banana

-1-2 tbsp Peanut butter – NO JIFFY OR PETER PAN PEEPS (I typically use Adam’s because of the price and nutritional value- PB2 is a good option if you want the peanut butter flavor but are trying to cut down on calories)

-a little salt and Stevia in the raw

2 ice cubes because mine was super watery and I don’t like watery smoothies – I like ice cream like smoothies 🙂

All you have to do is fit all these things in a blender and push the button – YIPPEE!  I cheat even more.  I put my ingredients in the smaller blender piece/bowl (I don’t know what it’s called) and eat my smoothie with a spoon right out of it….less to clean up.  I have to break my frozen nana in half to get it in there.

Workout for today…hope I get to it.

I’m going to take the baby on the walk since it’s not as hot as it usually is and then at some point today I will be doing this circuit…..

I’m going to have to look up a few things here like the inchworm?  Hmm…I thought Hamstring ball curls sounded like cake….they are stinking hard.  Hurts the back of my legs like crazy.  3 rounds…30 sec for each move and a cool down.  It sounds so bad, but it feels so good.  Have a great hump day (I actually hate that people call Wednesday’s hump day….sounds nasty).

It’s Not Rain, It’s A Hard Drizzle? Withdrawals, A Circuit & My Favorite Breakfast.

flood

The rain is still falling in Colorado.  Homes have been destroyed and lives have been taken.  Many people were praying for rain during the fires and now the rain is here.  I just pray that God would comfort all those that have lost and they he bring a rebalance to the land.  He knows what he is doing, even though some times it’s hard for us to understand.  I keep thinking about how life can change so abruptly.  I’m sure most people don’t think that their life will end on account of rain.  It’s insane! I have to say the news always has a way to either make things worse or make light of things.  Usually they are great at making you feel like the world is coming to an end, but this time around I think they are trying to calm the hearts of many.  I looked at my cell phone yesterday before leaving for my Dr.’s appointment and the weather forecast stated, “Hard Drizzle.”  As I looked out my window at the rain pouring down I decided that maybe a hard drizzle was a great way to word it.  Maybe we should all think of hard situations as a hard drizzle instead of a killer storm.  For all the storms in our life will pass and we will weather every storm one way or another.

So I don’t know if I should tell you that I take an anti-anxiety medicine or not?  But it’s too late.  I’ve have been taking Zoloft for about 8 months and it has helped me immensely.  It has helped me in my recovery from my eating disorder.  It has also allowed me to put on some healthy weight.  I’m still hoping my body is healing itself 100%, so that perhaps we can have more kids.  Well, last week Ayden was sick with his dizzy spell and Chad was out in the field and I was unable to pick up my prescription.  I get my medicine on a military base, so it’s not like I can just have anyone go pick it up for me.  Yesterday, I had been off it for 5 days and I felt absolutely crazy.  I had so much pressure in my forehead and I was lightheaded.  I also felt ANGRY and IRRITABLE.  I was cursing about things under my breath, I had a little road rage because some lady was talking on her cell and ATTEMPTING to drive.  She almost took us out.  I seriously think I could have kicked Dwayne Johnson’s butt because I was in attack mode. I could have ran a 10 mile marathon.  I was pumped.  Good news.  I got refills and will continue taking Zoloft.  I hope to one day wean myself off.  I don’t like the fact that I have to take a pill to feel better.  Do you take any meds? DId they help or hurt?  Did they make you gain weight?  Were you able to get off of them?  I really want to know.

I had my favorite breakfast today…

Peanut Butter Banana Oats

peanutbananaoat

I made them a little different, but they were still good.

You need:

-1/2 Oats

– 1 Cup water or unsweetened Almond milk (milk of choice)

– 1/2 banana

– Sea salt

– 1-2 Tbsp of Adam’s crunchy/creamy peanut butter (or any natural peanut butters…look at ingredients should only say PEANUTS  and maybe a little salt, not a list of 20 ingredients).

-Pure maple syrup or sugar-free syrup (I use sugar free although pure maple is better for you).

Here’s how I make it EASY

Put oats, water, banana and a dash of sea salt in a bowl and nuke for 1 min 30 seconds. Then stir it up.  I make sure the banana is totally smooth.  You can even put it in the blender for a smoother bowl of oatmeal like I did today.

Then I add my peanut on the top and drizzle sugar-free syrup with another dash of sea salt. I nuke again for 30 seconds to heat up the peanut butter and syrup.

You can leave the chunk of peanut butter on top (that’s how I like it) or you can stir, or blend it all together.

As for a Circuit I think we need more of a cardio today after our weights yesterday.

You can do this 2-3 times through. I like to warm up with a fast walk, run in place or jump rope for about 5 minutes before and a cool down with great stretches for 5 minutes after.

My Morning Fling, Strength Heavy Circuit Training and Peaches and Cream

Ahhh! I woke up today at 8:30 am. How? Why?  I don’t know and I don’t care.  All I know is it was well needed.  It’s crazy because no matter what time I go to bed I never wake up later than 7.  The house was so quiet because Chad was already off to work and Ayden was still sleeping, so I snuck out, put on a pot of coffee and had a morning fling with Dexter.  I can’t believe there is just ONE episode left 😦  What show will I turn to now?  Nothing can compare.  It’s nuts to think that I wouldn’t even watch it and now I don’t want it to end.  I just started watching it about 4 months ago.  I watched an episode every morning during the summer before Ayden woke up between the hours of 6-7 am.  Then if Chad was gone I would watch an episode at night.  It was my sweet little “Momma time” Coffee and Dexter.  I shall miss it.

Once again  I was determined to work out the Greek Yogurt into my breakfast mainly because I am completely out of protein powder.  I looked through my yogurt flavors and saw that I had peach greek yogurt.  I could think of nothing other than a childhood favorite, peaches and cream.

Peaches and Cream
Here’s what you need:

-1/2 cup oats

– 1Egg

-1 container of Peach Yoplait Greek Yogurt (or your preference)

-sea salt

– 1 tbsp Pecans (or nuts of choice)

– sugar free syrup

-1 tbsp of sugar free French vanilla creamer (I’m sure there is a healthier option, but that’s all I had at the moment)

It’s the same as yesterday…

Heat your griddle or skillet on medium heat and spray with olive oil spray (Next, I’m going to get Coconut oil spray)

Then, get out your blender (I have a NINJA- hi yaw) Add oats, egg, yogurt and a dash of sea salt.  BLEND

Pour onto griddle and throw Pecans on top of the mix…flip when outside become golden and sturdy.

While pancake is cooking.  Put some sugar-free syrup and cream into a microwavable bowl and heat for 30 seconds

Put pancake on a plate and pour on your creamy syrup (You can add a few more pecans to the top)

I actually have a Dr.’s appointment today and I have to get ready, but I will leave you with a wonderful circuit. This circuit called for BIG TIME weights. I actually used a weight bar. Thankfully I found mine in the garage. If you don’t have one, just use what you have for now….weights, cans, or your bodyweight. I don’t have a exercise ball, so I used Ayden’s Big outdoor ball. Be careful when doing this because it doesn’t seem as stable. In the words of Tony Horton, “Don’t break your face.”

You need –
*An exercise Ball
*Weight Bar – including 2 – 10 lb weights- one for each side of bar = 40 lbs (I did not do the set of dead lifts with 50 lbs, mainly because I didn’t want to have to keep switching out weights…I despise that)
*Music 🙂 It helps keep me going!
*Water
strength heavy

I’m going to head to goodwill after my appointment today and look for some weighted exercise balls and a new jump rope because ours looks like it’s dying. I LOVE GOODWILL!

Hubby’s Home, Circuit Training & a Nasty Concotion

Well, this morning I’m happy to say my husband is back.  Due to the flooding here in Colorado Springs I didn’t know if I would see him at all this week.  For those of you that don’t know he is a Soldier for the Army.  He was out in the field on base at Ft. Carson for a week doing some training and because of the flooding they closed the roads, so they couldn’t get back.  Luckily, the rain stopped and they were allowed to leave.

I always feel so much more secure when my husband is home.  I realize the first night he returns from his trainings just how tired I am because I usually have trouble sleeping while he’s away. I did feel somewhat better this time because of our in home security system, which is our dog Sandy. She use to sleep in her Kennel at night, which she seemed to like, but my son likes her to sleep by his bed. She sneaks out of his room and sleeps in the living room or in the hallway. She has this killer bark that would put fear in the hearts of many, so I know if someone was trying to break in she probably would either scare them away or would wake me so that I would have enough time to call for help, grab Ayden and hide in a closet. I make sure to have the phone by me while I sleep. Perhaps I’m paranoid, but I rather be slightly paranoid and prepared than the alternative.
SAMSUNG
This is my killer dog, doesn’t she just look lethal!

Anyways, here’s the equipment you will need and today’s circuit.
-Jump rope
-Weights
-Mat
-Timer (I use my phone)
-Water
-remember to look up exercise beforehand if you don’t know them.

ab-workout

I found this on a blog called, Peanut Butterfingers. I will be using many circuits from her blog. I have to admit I’m pretty sore today. The circuit training must be working some muscles out that have been at rest. Perhaps TMI but my butt itches, I wonder if that happens as a result of working out…perhaps it’s growing. HA!

As far as breakfast goes….UM I’m very dissatisfied, but at least I’m honest. I despised my breakfast but I still ate it because I hating wasting food and I needed to eat. I don’t really know why I’m posting the recipe, but I figure perhaps you can come up with something better using the same ingredients. At least I got my protein in. I shall call this, “The Nastiest Greek Yogurt Egg Bread of the Century.”

Greek

Here’s what I used:
2 slices of wheat bread
2 Eggs
Sea salt
Cinnamon
Chobani Black Cherry Greek Yogurt (It was not recalled)
Coconut Flakes
Oats
Sugar-free Syrup ** loved the syrup with a dash of salt, stevia and cinnamon (best part of this meal)

So here’s what I did.
I sprayed my pan with olive oil spray.

Then place my bread into the pan.

I put one egg on top off each piece of bread, sprinkle it with sea salt and covered.

I let it cook (the eggs looked pretty raw even after cooking for 5 minutes covered), so I flipped the bread and eggs.

I then added enough Greek yogurt to cover the bare side of the bread and covered for a few more minutes.

While this was cooking I made the syrup. I poured the syrup into a microwavable bowl and added sea salt, stevia and cinnamon and microwaved for 30 seconds.

I place the Greek Yogurt Egg Bread onto a plate and sprinkle on coconut flakes, a dash of oats, and cinnamon and added my yummy syrup.

Then I ate it. I think it was the texture of the yogurt on top that I didn’t like. Perhaps yogurt topped pancakes would have been better or perhaps no yogurt on any type of bread would be best…maybe mixed into pancake batter or with oatmeal. Hmm. Perhaps I’ll try that next time.
